Socceroos to Return to Canberra for World Cup Qualifier

Dominant Victory over Lebanon Moves Socceroos Closer to Sixth World Cup Appearance

Record-Breaking Crowd Expected for Return Match

The Subway Socceroos will return to Canberra on Tuesday, March 26, to play a FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier against Lebanon at GIO Stadium. The match, which is likely to have great flow, comes after the Socceroos' dominant 5-1 victory over Lebanon at the same stadium on Tuesday night.

Before a ball has been kicked, the Subway Socceroos have already surpassed 20,032, breaking the crowd record for a standalone football soccer match at GIO Stadium in Canberra.

The Socceroos conclude their March qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2026 against Lebanon on Tuesday evening at 7:45pm AEDT at Canberra's GIO Stadium. It will be the Socceroos' first match in Canberra since beating Nepal 5-0 in October 2019 in a qualifier for the 2022 World Cup.

Socceroos coach Graham Arnold was delighted his side could put on a show in front of a home crowd.

"It was a great performance from the boys," Arnold said. "We played with a lot of intensity and created a lot of chances. It was a great result for us and now we can focus on the next game."

The Socceroos' road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been made a fraction easier after Lebanon agreed to shift their home qualifier later this month to Canberra, meaning Graham Arnold's side will not have to travel to Beirut.

Australia are now through to the final round of World Cup qualifying, where they will face the top teams in Asia for a place at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
