England's Ollie Pope has made history by becoming the first player in 147 years to score a century in each innings of a Test match on debut.

The 20-year-old batsman achieved the feat in the second Test against India at Lord's, following up his first-innings 134 with an unbeaten 108 in the second innings.

Pope is the first Englishman to score centuries in both innings of a Test match on debut since Gloucestershire's W.G. Grace in 1873.

He is the first Englishman to score centuries in both innings of a Test match on debut since Gloucestershire's W.G. Grace in 1873.

Pope is the youngest player to score centuries in both innings of a Test match on debut since Sachin Tendulkar in 1989.

Pope's performance has been praised by cricket experts, who have hailed him as a future star of the game.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan said: "Ollie Pope is a special talent. He has all the attributes to be a world-class batsman."

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar said: "Ollie Pope is a very exciting young player. He has a lot of time to improve, but he has already shown that he has the potential to be a great batsman."

Pope's centuries have helped to revive memories of some of the greatest batsmen in history, such as Don Bradman and Sachin Tendulkar.

Bradman, who is widely regarded as the greatest batsman of all time, scored centuries in both innings of his Test debut in 1928.

Tendulkar, who is India's leading run-scorer in Test cricket, scored centuries in both innings of his Test debut in 1989.

Pope's performance has also been praised by England captain Joe Root, who said: "Ollie Pope is a very exciting young player. He has a lot of potential and I am sure he will go on to have a great career."

Pope's centuries have helped England to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series against India.

The third Test match will start on August 18 at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
